Why this exists
Most kids start strong and then quietly switch off - not because they can't do the maths, but because home learning leans on page after page of worksheets with little reason to care. That is a motivation problem, and it can't be solved with more sums.
A lot of homeschool parents carry the same quiet stress: will a moderator see enough evidence? Are the right outcomes covered? Record keeping becomes a nagging doubt that follows you home. It shouldn't.
The Maths Studio was built to answer both. Real, hands-on maths that kids look forward to - and documentation so well organised that a moderation visit feels like a routine, stress-free appointment.
The rhythm
Every week follows the same gentle rhythm: one session for building confident number sense, one for putting maths to work on real things. Each session is low floor, high ceiling - any child can step in at their own level, and there is always somewhere further to reach.
01Session one
We make friends with numbers. Number talks get kids explaining their thinking out loud, base-10 blocks make place value something you can actually hold, and fraction circles turn slippery ideas into something you can see and count.
02Session two
This is where big ideas land in the real world. Kids draw scaled floor plans, measure baking ratios, budget for make-believe shops, build geometric shapes, and track data they collected themselves.
Every new idea starts with something kids can hold and move, then becomes a picture they can draw, and only then a number they can write. Understanding comes first - the notation follows naturally. No rote worksheets, no memorising without meaning.

About Katie
Katie is a Registered Nurse and a homeschool mother who runs the studio. Nursing taught her a few things that turn out to matter a lot in teaching: calm under pressure, patience with the pace of a real person, a default to safety, and the habit of explaining things clearly.
She has watched multi-age home learning up close in her own house, and she builds every session so that anxious, hesitant, and confident learners all feel at ease around the same table. Slow is fine. So is fast. Everyone is met where they are.

Yes - the studio is built for multi-age learning, roughly Years 2-5. Because every session is low floor, high ceiling, a Year 2 and a Year 5 child can sit side by side and each be challenged at their own level. Small groups mean Katie can give every child individual attention.
